Everything worth seeing in Arucas and its surroundings, just minutes from the villa.
Staying at Villa Mirador de Arucas puts you right next to one of the most characterful towns in Gran Canaria — a century-old rum distillery, romantic gardens and some of the best views on the island. Here are the 8 highlights to make the most of your stay.
Built in grey volcanic stone between 1909 and 1977, it's so monumental that everyone simply calls it "Arucas' cathedral." Its neo-Gothic architecture, with stained glass and fine detailing, is surprising in scale for a town this size. Entry is free and it's worth at least half an hour.
This private botanical garden (built in 1911 next to the Marquesado de Arucas House) brings together more than 500 plant species from around the world in a calm, shaded setting. Perfect for a break after exploring the old town, especially with children.
Popularly known as the Parque de las Flores, with its palm-lined paths, well-kept gardens and calm atmosphere, it's the perfect spot for a stroll, a shaded rest, or killing time before lunch in town.
This former volcano, now a lookout point, offers one of the most complete panoramas of northern Gran Canaria: the town, the coast and, on clear days, even Tenerife. Going up at sunset is one of our guests' favourite plans.
Founded in 1884, Arehucas is one of the oldest rum distilleries in Spain, and it's still operating today in Arucas. It offers guided tours through its century-old barrel cellars, tasting included — a different kind of stop that's very popular with international visitors.
The municipality of Arucas also has its own stretch of coastline, a short drive from the villa. Bañaderos-El Puertillo — a rock-and-sand beach with facilities, great for a quiet swim. Los Enanos — very popular with surfers, with good waves. Los Charcones — calm natural pools, perfect for families with children.
This early-19th-century house, surrounded by ornamental gardens, is now home to the Arucas Municipal Museum. A short visit, but well worth it to understand the town's history.
Strolling along the shopping streets of León y Castillo and Francisco Gourié, lined with traditional Canarian houses, is a plan in itself. On Saturday mornings a lively local market sets up at the Parque de la Paz.
How much time do I need to see Arucas?
A relaxed half-day is enough to see the essentials of the historic quarter, the Basilica and the Parque de las Flores. If you add Montaña de Arucas and the rum distillery, plan for a full day.
Can I walk there from the villa?
The historic quarter and the Basilica are a short drive away; for the northern beaches and Montaña de Arucas, driving is the usual option, though the trips are very short.
What's the best time of year to visit Arucas?
Any time of year works well — the climate is pleasant for walking almost all year round.
Villa Mirador de Arucas has its own private lookout over the town and the Atlantic, with a private pool and space for up to 14 guests — the perfect base for exploring all of Gran Canaria at your own pace.
